Phelps Mountain - My 7th

Phelps Mountain is a fairly easy hike with a great reward. Hiking in from the Adirondac Loj to Marcy Dam and continuing up the Van Hoevenburg Trail to the junction offers a gradual ascent over 3.2 miles. The trail from to the summit is 1 mile of steepness.

We had a beautiful warm summer day with awesome blue sky and white clouds. The views of the MacIntyre Mountains and Great Range were unbelieveable.

I hiked this with my Hiking Mates on August 5, 2007. Here is the link to our event posting.

Giant Mountain - Short But Steep

Giant Mountain (#12 of 46; 4,627 ft.) is a really cool mountain. The hike is short, only 6 miles round trip or so via the Ridge Trail, but is extremely steep and a constant stair-climb. When you think you are almost to the summit... you are fooled.

A few of us accidentally went down the Roaring Brook trail, adding in some distance to our hike. Luckily one of our group members checked for us and gave us a ride back to the trail head.

I did this hike with my Hiking Mates on July 29, 2007. Here is the link to our event posting.

Big Slide - My 5th High Peak

Big Slide (#27 of 46; 4240 ft.) is an awesome hike... and one of my favorites so far. The hike over The Brothers offers nearly continuous views of the Great Range, Giant and Hurricane Mountain. We had a gorgeous day with warmth and sun. I definitely want to visit this mountain again during different seasons, especially fall.

This photo is a view of the Great Range and more from the hike up Big Slide.

I had some camera issues this day which is unfortunate because there would have been many great pictures. I did this hike with some of my Hiking Mates friends.

Cascade & Porter

My second High Peaks adventure was a bit easier than the first - The very popular and well traveled mountains - Cascade & Porter. It was a beautiful day with quite a few white clouds in the sky and wind on the summit of Cascade almost blew us off.

Becoming an Adirondack 46er - Alogonquin and Wright Peak

OK well this is the start of it. I am finally putting down my thoughts on the 16 of the ADK 46 that I have already completed. I hope to share great pictures as well as thoughts and favorites of my hiking adventures. To the left is a photo of me on my first High Peak hike - Wright Peak (#16 of 46; 4,580 ft), with my second in the same day - Alogonquin (#2 of 46; 5114 ft)- in the background (photo of me on the summit below). (June 16, 2007) I will continue to post my progress in becoming an Adirondack 46er.

I hiked with my hiking group - The Hiking Mates of the Capital Region (on Meetup.com) Here is a link to the Calendar posting of this hike!
